Thomas Seifert
Thomas Seifert studied Biology at the Universities of Salzburg and Vienna. He's worked as a Journalist since 1991, where he started as an editor for the "City and Politics" section of the Viennese weekly FALTER. In 1998 he joined the politics team at business publication FORMAT. From 1999 to 2005 he worked as an international correspondent at the weekly NEWS, covering the Balcans, Turkey, Africa, the Middle East, Chechnya and Asia. He has covered the aftermath of 9-11 in New York and was in Afghanistan exactly one month later on 10-11, where he covered the war in Afghanistan until the end of the year. He has been to Afghanistan several times since then.
From 2002 on he focused on Iraq, where he covered the war in March and April 2003 from Baghdad. He went back several times since then. He has travelled the middle East extensively and has reported from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, U.A.E. and Oman. He has also reported from Iran on several occasions.
In 2005 he published - together with Klaus Werner - Schwarzbuch Öl, a volume on the oil industry. The book has since been translated into Arabic, Dutch and Italian.
