James Gardner
James Gardner is a widely published complexity theorist. His new book is entitled The Intelligent Universe: AI, ET, and the Emerging Mind of the Cosmos (www.intelligentuniverse.org). Gardner's first book Biocosm (www.biocosm.org) was selected as one of the 10 best science books of 2003 by the editors of Amazon.com and was featured in major stories in TIME, U.S. News & World Report, Harper's, National Geographic, and other major publications.
His path-breaking scientific articles about cosmology and evolution have appeared in Complexity, Acta Astronautica (the scientific journal of the International Academy of Astronautics), the International Journal of Astrobiology, and the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society.
His articles for a general audience have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Nature Biotechnology, World Link (the magazine of the World Economic Forum), WIRED and SKEPTIC. Gardner is a regular lecturer at prominent scientific institutions and conferences around the world and is a contributing author for a forthcoming book to be published by NASA entitled Cosmos and Culture.
In addition to his scientific work, Gardner is an active attorney and political consultant. A former Oregon State Senator, Gardner previously chaired the Education Subcommittee of Joint Committee on Ways and Means of the Oregon Legislative Assembly as well as the Oregon Joint Legislative Committee on Trade and Economic Development.
Gardner is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, where he served as Article Editor of the Yale Law Journal. Following law school, he served as a law clerk for Judge Alfred T. Goodwin on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice Potter Stewart on the United States Supreme Court.
Gardner's legal and political consulting clients include the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), Philip Morris, Kraft, Wal-Mart, Microsoft, the Association of American Publishers, Hertz, Baxter Healthcare, and other Fortune 500 companies.
